Is Snowboarding More Fun Than Skiing?

Is Snowboarding More Fun Than Skiing?

Skiing and snowboarding are fun sports to do on ski holidays. But snowboarding can also be a much more dangerous sport if  you are not  careful. Here are some ways you can prepare yourself and hope  to avoid any injuries.

Get in shape first. Snowboarding is hard on your knees and legs. If you are in good shape then you have a lesser risk of injury.

The right equipment is essential. Snowboarders don’t have pole so you need to have the right size board, the right size shoe clips and the right helmet. This can alleviate any further injury due to your gear.

Take a lesson. Snowboarding is much more fun if you learn the basic techniques. The lesson will show you how to start and stop. It even shows you how to fall properly.

Protect yourself from injury. Head, knees, tailbones, and wrists have the most injuries in snowboarding. Wear wrist guards made for snowboarding and a helmet.

Try to roll when you fall to spread out the impact. That way not one part of your body gets the whole hit.

Find out about the equipment you need and how to choose good and reliable boards, clothing and accessories before buying. Before you rush out, make sure you learn the basics so you can have fun safely.

Lake District Hotels and Winter Breaks.

Lake District Hotels and Winter Breaks.

Making the most of any season is an important task and one that many of us seem to forget at this time of year. Just because the nights are longer and the weather is less than ideal at times, this doesn’t mean that we should for a second simply hibernate away and wait a few weeks until the new year is upon us before we think about taking a much needed break. After all, what could be better than a cosy winter getaway, especially one which can be undertaken with only a few hours worth of car travel at the very most? Yes, the Lake District really is a stunning environment at this time of year and one that increasing numbers of people are considering, particularly where a winter break is concerned. There are literally dozens upon dozens of Lake District Hotels which are currently booking reservations for the forthcoming winter weeks and even if you are at a loose end where Christmas is concerned, there will no doubt be a Lake District Hotel for you.

So, why exactly should you consider the Lake District as a possible getaway location at this time of year? Well, as we all know very well indeed, money can be rather hard to get your hands on in the build up to Christmas, even more so than at other times of the year which is why large numbers of people are considering the many beautiful locations which are situated on their own back door before looking to jet off into the sunshine. After all, Christmas just wouldn’t be Christmas if the weather was too good now would it? Well, the Lake District has some wondrous sights to offer, some scenes are tremendous natural beauty and just because it is situated in the United Kingdom, many folks make the mistake of assuming that there will be little to do in terms of entertainment when this generalisation could not be further from the truth. Yes, the Lake District has plenty to offer anyone who has an open mind and fancies enjoying all the perks of winter in a delightfully cosy and comfortable environment.

So, if you are currently on the search for a much needed weekend break, why not consider some of the best Lake-District-Hotels and/or a Windermere hotel? Safe to say that with the sheer number of benefits on offer, whether you want a weekend or a week or more, your holiday in the Lakes will be an experience to remember.

Seeing Europe on Foot

Seeing Europe on Foot

Although its not as common as it once was, there are still adventurous people who will backpack through Europe in the summer months.  Some of these travelers will do this alone but most have a friend along to share the experience with them.  They won’t be renting a car but taking the public transportation when they need it.

There is the bus, the subway, train and ferry to help them get from where they are to where they want to be. Staying in a hostel during their adventure is not done because of the lower cost but because it is part of their overall trip and they find these hostels in the online directory.

During their trek, they discover there are better times of year to return to see events and festivals that are not happening when they are there.  They can return during the winter months to ski Italy, France, Slovenia or even Switzerland.  Europe offers many world-class ski resorts and Italy has previously hosted the Winter Olympics and that fact alone is enough to attract skiers from all over the world. Researching a few European countries before making a trip like this will give dates as to when is the best time of year to visit.

The family who cruises Together

The family who cruises Together

Cruising is a big industry and with so many destinations to choose from, anyone is sure to find a cruise that fits them. You can cruise warm climates and cold climates, you can cruise for three days or three months and if you love the sea, you will cruise as often as you can.

Cruising is also a popular family choice because everything you need is on the ship and and keeping track of your children is not a problem.  When you cruise, you only unpack once and then you can go ashore to shop and sightseeing and not take any luggage with you.  There are family cruises, singles cruises and also cruises for gays, groups and corporate travels.

Many cruises depart from Florida and if you live on the west coast, you need to fly there to begin your cruise. Many people will search for cheap Florida holidays to find cruises, theme park holidays as well as flights and accommodations.  Families travel to Florida so they can all visit the theme park capitol of the world and spend days of non-stop fun with all the attractions there.  The family who cruises together will all go home with fond memories of the time they spent on a ship.

Little Known Africa

Little Known Africa

You could ask almost anyone in the world outside of Africa if they knew where it was on a map and they would be able to tell you, but for some reason most people do not find themselves traveling there. When traveling tourists have seemed to direct most of their attention to European countries like France, Italy, and Spain. Not to say that these countries are not great to travel to and offer great things individually, but Africa allows you to burst outside of your boundaries.

Everyone is going to be afraid or uncomfortable with something in Africa, with as much diversity it possesses in wildlife and nature. Now in order to have a really fulfilling experience on your next vacation, take a trip where you can face on of your fears head on and overcome it. Find a nice place outside of your comfort zone where you will be culturally enlightened, experiencing most of what the country has to offer. A lot of history that affects the United States as well as many ancestors to those living in the Americas originates from Africa.

So take Tunisia holidays, take a trip to the pyramids in Egypt, or even travel to where the last World Cup was held in South Africa. Regardless of what you choose, you will not be disappointed and will most likely find it more fulfilling. So before you sell out to the normal vacation spots, create a unique experience of your own that will give you stories to certainly put a buzz in the office when you get back.

Killarney Ireland

Killarney Ireland

In the southwest of Ireland lies County Kerry with the largest town being Killarney. Steeped in history, ancient castles, forts and abbeys, Killarney has many attractions to capture the attention of visitors both young and old. Sightseeing can be enjoyed from walking tours to special jaunty car rides that are actually horse drawn carriages or carts. The name Killarney comes from the old Irish for ‘church of sloes’.

Killarney National Park is home to many major attractions, one being the Lakes of Kilarney. This park encompasses 26,000 acres growing out of a donation to Killarney by the Muckross Estate in 1932. The park is home to a large herd of native red deer. Within the park , lies Muckross House with 65 room once visited by Queen Victoria in 1861. This massive manor was the home of the renowned watercolor artist, Mary Balfour Herbert. The tour begins passing through the entrance way where Irish Elk antlers are displayed. The rooms are filled with massive oak furniture. On the grounds of Muckross House is an Abbey dating back to 1448 built for the Franciscan Order of Monks. Though most of the structure lies in ruins, it is still a favorite attraction for many visitors. Another attraction not to be missed is Aghadoe Cathedral believed to date back to the 11th and 12th centuries.

Within the cathedral are ogham stone inscriptions thought to be an ancient 5th century Irish alphabet that was used to disguise communications from those who understood ancient Latin used at that time by the Holy Roman Empire which controlled all of Ireland. Another castle within the national park is Ross Castle that was the 15th century home of the O’Donoghue clan. This castle which sports square shaped medieval stone towers was captured by Oliver Cromwell during the wars between England and Ireland. For those who desire more modern attractions and activities, Killarney is home to the world’s largest model railroad layout. This railway features 50 trains all of which operate at the same time. The layout which occupies 1000 square feet features scale models of Big Ben, the Eiffel Tower and the town of Killarney. A visit to Dingle Peninsula affords visitors the opportunity to swim with dolphins, one of which is believed to be approximately 20 years old.

Lake Eyre is Australia’s Natural Wonder

Lake Eyre is Australia’s Natural Wonder

Lake Eyre is located in Southern Australia and at 49 feet below sea level is at the lowest elevation on the continent. It was named for Edward John Eyre, the first European to discover the lake. The depth and salinity of the lake is dependent on how much rainfall occurs. As the water level rises, it comes into contact with and dissolves a salt crust that increases salinity of the lake. At a depth of 13 feet, Lake Eyre is no more salty than the ocean but evaporation quickly causes it to become the world’s saltiest lake. Although the instances of Lake Eyre filling to its maximum depth are rare, on these occasions it is Australia’s largest lake. Lake Eyre National Park, South Australia’s first arid zone reserve, surrounds the lake and was established to protect its wilderness. Among a few of the many activities that can be enjoyed in Lake Eyre are nature watching, rowing and off road driving.

The vast expanse of the Lake Eyre Basin allows for fantastic off-roading opportunities. The area is fairly flat and generally dry, which makes it ideal for off road driving. In 1964, the basin’s near perfect driving conditions helped Donald Campbell set a new world record for top land speed when he reached 428 mph in his modified Bluebird.

Groups of sailors make use of Lake Eyre’s flooding episodes by hosting regattas. During the lake’s latest wet season, participants journeyed from all over Australia for the chance to boat on Lake Eyre. The event was so popular that it garnered world wide publicity.

Flooding in the Lake Eyre area sparks the growth of wildflowers and attracts congregations of millions of birds and other animals. As the lake fills with water, pelicans, cormorants, ibis and other birds assemble to breed. The Lake Eyre Dragon, a small comb-bearing reptile, also returns during rainy seasons. Even wild camels come to the lake, drawn by the presence of water. Because the lake fills so rarely and the filling episodes are unpredictable, the chance to observe the animals that flock to the lake can be a once in a lifetime activity.  Leslie from allpro.com

Virgin Holidays- Rockstar Service

At Virgin Holidays, we believe amazing service should come as standard. That’s why Virgin Holiday’s magic touches are made available to all Virgin Holidays customers – not just the VIPs!

We realise that you want to make the most of being on holiday, so we came up with Check in, Chill out, so you can check in for your flight without leaving the beach…or bar.  Airports are a drag.  The holiday only really starts when you get to your destination.  And if you’ve got kids, then airports are living nightmares.  So, to perk up the airport experience, we came up with the VRoom. And when you’re on holiday, you want to make sure it’s as good as it can be.  That’s where Virgin Holidays’ Concierge service comes in – a concierge actually tuned in to the buzz of your destination, not a guy in a suit on kick backs from rip-off restaurants. This belief is what sets Virgin Holidays apart from the competition. That’s why we actually encourage our customers to ‘Ask For the World’.

But how do you express that exclusive treatment in a single thought.  What do Virgin Holidays offer that no-one else does?  We think it can be described as…

“ROCKSTAR SERVICE”

It’s a level of care you’d normally associate with the glamour and excitement of the entertainment elite.  Made available to every Virgin Holidays customer.

The Rockstar Service campaign is the latest creative expression of this belief. With Virgin Holidays, you can rest assured that you’ll get intuitive, imaginative typically brilliant twinkle-in-the-eye Virgin service, every single time you travel with us.
